Most routine maintenance visits take 1–3 hours; a single hedge trim or lawn cut is typically 1–2 hours while larger tidy-ups, hedge reductions or tree pruning can take half a day to 1–2 days. Factors that extend time include severe overgrowth, restricted access, additional waste removal and wet weather.

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• Are you insured for garden work and public liability cover available on request?

• What exactly is included in the quote and what would be charged extra?

• Will you remove green waste and how is disposal charged?

• Do you use pesticides or herbicides and can you confirm product names and safety measures?

• Can you provide references or before/after photos of similar jobs?

• Do any works require permission (TPOs or conservation area consents) or specialist equipment?

How to Avoid Surprises

• Confirm access route and parking close to the garden gate

• Point out water tap and mains electricity availability if needed

• Tell the gardener about buried services, sprinkler systems or old fencing that could be damaged

• Note any allergies to plants or chemicals and keep pets away during treatment

• Agree waste removal method and where materials will be stored on site
