Hedge Trimming and Removal Guide

Scope of Works

• Site visit & wildlife check – confirm no active nests and assess waste volume.

• Set‑up of cutting gear (powered trimmers, shears, ladders or telescopic poles).

• Trim and shape hedges to agreed height/width; reduction or topping if required.

• General garden cleanup – rake lawns, collect fallen leaves, clear dead plants.

• Bagging or loading green waste into council sacks, tonne bags or skip.

• Licensed disposal of arisings at composting site or green‑waste facility.

• Final blow‑down & tidy‑up, paths swept and waste‑transfer note issued.

• Typical: 2 – 4 hours for a standard boundary hedge and light debris. HomeownerCosts

• Half‑day+ (4–6 hrs): tall or very dense hedges, multiple waste loads, poor access.

• Full day: overgrown gardens, bird‑nest delays, or equipment hire/set‑up time.

  
  

Questions to Ask Your Trade

1. Will you survey for nesting birds and postpone if any are active?

2. Is waste disposal included, and how many bags/loads before extra charges apply?

3. What hourly or overtime rate kicks in if the job overruns?

4. How will you protect lawns and borders from falling debris or ladders?

5. Do you carry public‑liability insurance for powered cutting equipment?

6. What equipment hire (ladders, MEWP, chipper) is excluded from the quote?

7. Can you offer a discounted follow‑up trim on a maintenance schedule?

   
   

How to Avoid Surprises

• Access & parking: reserve on‑street space for vans, skips or lifts.

• Power supply: provide an outdoor socket or confirm cordless equipment.

• Council permits: check local green‑waste fees and hedge‑height bylaws.

• Working at height: agree who books MEWP/cherry‑picker and pavement licences.

• Weather buffer: high winds or heavy rain can postpone trimming.

• Neighbour notice: warn neighbours of noise and debris if hedges are shared.
