Scope of Works

  • Pre-move survey – walkthrough to list furniture, fragile items and access issues; provide written quote.

  • Packing (if ordered) – deliver boxes in advance or pack contents on the day, label rooms, protect TVs, pictures and glassware.

  • Load-out – lay floor-protectors, dismantle beds/wardrobes as agreed, blanket-wrap and strap furniture, inventory each item onto the van.

  • Transport – drive direct to the new address (or via storage) with goods insured in transit.

  • Unload & place – re-assemble furniture, place boxes in correct rooms, remove all pads and debris.

  • Final check & sign-off – walk round with the client, note any damage, collect payment and leave the property tidy.

Questions to Ask Your Trade

  1. Is the quote fixed-price and does it include VAT, fuel and insurance?

  2. Will you supply boxes and packing materials, and are they collected afterwards?

  3. What level of goods-in-transit insurance do you carry and is there an excess?

  4. How many crew members and vehicles will attend on the day?

  5. Are dismantling/re-assembly and wardrobe boxes included in the price?

  6. What is the surcharge for stairs, parking permits or remote key collection?

  7. How soon must the balance be paid and what is your cancellation policy?

How to Avoid Surprises

  • Reserve parking bays or suspension lines outside both properties well in advance.

  • Declare heavy or unusual items (piano, safe, peloton) so the firm brings the right kit.

  • Label rooms in the new house to speed up unloading.

  • Photograph fragile or high-value items before the crew packs them.

  • Check building management rules for lift bookings or move-in slots in flats.

  • Keep an essentials box (kettle, chargers, toiletries) with you, not on the lorry.
