Lawn Turf Installation Guide

Scope of Works

• Site survey & ground analysis – measure area, test soil pH/compaction, plan drainage runs.

• Strip & dispose of old turf/weed layer; rotovate or cultivate soil to 100 mm depth.

• Import and grade topsoil/compost to achieve even levels and correct falls.

• Roll‑out fresh turf (dwarf rye, shade‑tolerant, or premium sports mix) with staggered joints.

• Tamp, water‑in & top‑dress seams; cut edges neatly around paths and beds.

• Leave watering & after‑care sheet, including first‑mow timetable and feed schedule.
  

Typical Cost (inc. VAT)

Time on Site

• Typical: 1 – 2 days for up to 50 m² with good access.

• Longer (3 days+): heavy clay that needs double rotovating, steep gradients, or multiple skip exchanges.

• Shorter: small front lawns (< 20 m²) needing only light cultivation.
  

Questions to Ask Your Trade

1. What turf grade & cultivar will you supply, and is it grown on USGA‑spec soil?

2. How will you prepare drainage and avoid future water‑logging?

3. Is topsoil included and to what depth will it be installed?

4. How soon after laying can I walk or mow on the new turf?

5. What warranty covers establishment failure or weed contamination?

6. Will disposal of old turf & soil be carried out under a licensed waste‑carrier note?

7. Do you provide an after‑care visit to check rooting and first cut?

How to Avoid Surprises

• Access & parking: keep drive clear for palletised turf and bulk‑bag soil deliveries.

• Irrigation ready: ensure outside tap and hose reach entire lawn for immediate watering.

• Utility checks: mark shallow cables or sprinkler pipes before cultivation.

• Weather watch: postpone if frost or heatwave is forecast; turf must be laid within 24 h of delivery.

• Pet plan: fence or cordon new turf for two weeks to prevent damage.

• Final payment: hold 10 % until turf has rooted (usually 14 days) to safeguard against shrinkage.
