Scope of Works

• Survey & moisture reading – locate damp, loose plaster, failed grout or mould patches.

• Strip‑out & prep – remove old tiles, plasterboard or render; cap plumbing where exposed.

• Substrate repairs – fit moisture‑resistant backer boards, re‑skim or patch render; install waterproof tanking membrane in shower zones.

• First‑fix adjustments – reposition pipes, niches, wiring or boxing‑in as per new layout.

• Tile installation – set reference lines, bed tiles in flexible adhesive, maintain 2 mm grout lines; mitre or fit trims to external corners.

• Grout & silicone – use mould‑resistant grout, colour‑matched silicone at all change‑of‑plane joints.

• Finishing & clean‑down – polish haze, seal porous stone if specified, reinstall fixtures and leave area dust‑free.

Time on Site

• Small patch repair (≤2 m²): 3 – 5 hours over one day.

• Standard shower wall (6 – 8 m²): 2 – 3 days including tanking & grout cure.

• Full bathroom (10 – 15 m² walls): 4 – 5 working days.

• Extending factors: plumbing reroutes, large‑format tile cutting, structural boarding, damp‑drying intervals, or custom trim lead‑times.
  

Questions to Ask Your Trade

1. Which waterproofing system (liquid membrane, foam board, tanking tape) will you use and what warranty does it carry?

2. Are wall substrates being replaced or over‑boarded, and how will existing damp be treated?

3. What tile adhesive & grout type (flexible, rapid‑set, epoxy) will suit my tile size and room temperature?

4. Is rubble disposal and surface preparation (removal of old tiles, skim coat) included in the quote?

5. How long before walls can be used or painted after grout and silicone application?

6. Will you protect adjacent floors and sanitaryware from dust and tool impact?

7. Do you carry public‑liability insurance for water damage arising after completion?

   
   

How to Avoid Surprises 

• Access & parking: reserve a spot near the door; tile boxes and boards are heavy.

• Confirm tile choice & quantities before the start date to avoid mid‑job stock issues.

• Ventilation plan: keep extractor fans working; tile adhesive and grout cure faster in low humidity.

• Check wall flatness early: uneven masonry may need extra levelling compound – budget time & cost.

• Agree movement joints & trims: pick colours/profiles in advance to avoid last‑minute add‑ons.

• Keep spare tiles & grout codes for future repairs.

• Get a written, itemised contract covering waterproofing, tiling, disposal, VAT and any extras to keep the project safely within the £600 – £2,000 range above.
