Scope of Works

• inspect the printer and confirm the waste ink pad is saturated or leaking

• power down, isolate and remove covers to access the waste ink reservoir

• remove and replace saturated pads with manufacturer or approved absorbent pads

• clean visible ink spillage, check ink paths and wipe areas using PPE to avoid contamination

• reset waste‑ink counter/service light where possible and report if a software/service reset is required

• package used pads for safe disposal and advise on any follow‑up repairs if corrosion or leaks found

Most straightforward waste ink pad replacements take 0.5–2 hours on site including testing and a basic clean up. Time increases for heavy contamination, printers needing deep disassembly, hard‑to‑source pads, or if the printer must be taken away for workshop repair

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• have you replaced waste ink pads on this printer model before

• will you use manufacturer parts or third‑party absorbent pads

• is resetting the service/waste counter included and will any software licence be needed

• how will you dispose of contaminated pads and is there a separate disposal charge

• what guarantee do you provide on the replacement and any leak repairs

• will you need to remove the printer to a workshop and how long will that take

How to Avoid Surprises

• clear space around the printer and ensure easy access to mains and network connections

• advise the technician of heavy soiling or previous leaks when booking

• confirm parking or loading access if the job is in an office, flat or up multiple flights of stairs

• have admin passwords ready for networked printers and the driver/software if a reset is needed

• keep children and pets away during the visit; technician will use gloves and eye protection for contamination control

• ask ahead if the engineer may need to take the unit away and whether return times or additional transport charges apply
