Scope of Works

• inspect hedge and tree condition and identify deadwood or disease

• trim and shape hedges to agreed heights

• prune trees to remove dead or crossing branches and reduce crowns

• crown-lift or reduce branches for clearance to buildings, fences and footpaths

• chip arisings and load green waste for disposal or leave chippings as agreed

• work using appropriate PPE and secure ladders or mechanical access where needed

Most domestic hedge trims take 1–3 hours; small tree pruning typically takes 2–6 hours. Time increases for large trees, restricted access, requirement for lifts or scaffolding, complex dismantling, or if nesting birds or council consents are involved

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• are you insured for arboriculture work (public liability and employers) and can i see certificates

• will removal of arisings and disposal be included in the quote or charged separately

• do you need planning or TPO checks and will you handle any consents needed

• how many operatives and what kit will you use (chipper, lift, stump grinder)

• how will you protect nearby plants, fences, drains and buildings during work

• will you check for nesting birds and advise on timing to avoid the breeding season

How to Avoid Surprises

• clear a working area and move cars so operatives have easy access

• reserve parking or inform neighbours if a large vehicle is expected

• check for overhead cables and flag any known underground services

• tell the tradie about boundaries, fragile structures and low garden features

• agree disposal method in advance to avoid unexpected skip or haulage fees

• avoid scheduling major pruning during bird breeding season (March–August) without checks
