Wall Panelling Guide

Scope of Works

• Measure & mark‑out wall layout; confirm panel style, height and power‑socket positions.

• Prepare surfaces – remove loose paint, fill holes and apply mist‑coat where needed.

• Cut, route and install panels or battens (e.g. MDF shaker, tongue‑and‑groove, slatted acoustic).

• Adhere and pin‑nail panels level, then caulk joints and internal corners.

• Sand, prime and apply chosen finish paint or wood‑stain.

• Re‑fit skirtings, sockets and switches; tidy site and dispose of off‑cuts responsibly.

Time on Site

Simple shaker panelling in one room takes 1–2 days (fit, fill, paint).

Add time for complex designs, tall ceilings, slatted acoustic panels, drying between coats or extensive surface repair.

Questions to Ask Your Trade

1. Which panel material and thickness do you recommend for my room’s humidity?

2. Will you supply a scaled layout drawing before cutting?

3. Is filling, sanding and two finish coats included in the quote?

4. How will you protect floors, sockets and radiators during installation?

5. Do you use moisture‑resistant MDF in kitchens or bathrooms?

6. What fixings and adhesives will secure panels to my plasterboard or masonry?

How to Avoid Surprises

• Clear walls of pictures, TVs and shelves and move furniture to the room centre.

• Confirm parking and access height if a tower scaffold is needed.

• Check for hidden pipes/cables before work starts (especially in stud walls).

• Agree on paint colour, sheen and sample approval in writing.

• Ensure the quote covers waste disposal and any skirting or architrave removal/re‑fit.
