Scope of Works

• Survey and measure area, check levels and establish required fall for drainage

• Strip turf/topsoil, remove roots and organic matter and dispose of waste

• Locate and protect underground services and mark property boundaries

• Form and compact a suitable sub-base, install edge restraints and a bedding layer

• Lay chosen paving/pattern, cut to fit, compact and point or apply resin joints

• Final sweep, site tidy and spoil removal; use PPE for dusty work and safe handling of waste

Most domestic patios (15–30m²) take 1–3 days on site from strip-out to finishing; poor access, heavy clay sub‑soil, complex drainage or bad weather can extend this to a week or more

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• Are you insured and do you have public liability cover for damage and injury?

• Can you show examples or references from similar patio jobs and confirm who will supervise on site?

• How will you locate and protect underground services and who is responsible for accidental damage?

• Which materials and laying method do you recommend and can you supply a written breakdown?

• How will you manage drainage/run‑off and do you recommend channels, permeable paving or falls?

• What is the payment schedule and how are variations or unexpected extra costs handled?

How to Avoid Surprises

• Ensure clear access and parking close to the work area or reserve a space if needed

• Agree where materials and spoil will be stored and whether a skip is required

• Check party wall, permit or covenant issues and confirm who handles any required approvals

• Make fragile plants, pots and outdoor furniture safe or move them off-site before work starts

• Confirm start date, working hours, wet‑weather contingency and contact details for site updates
