• are you insured and can you supply public liability and relevant arboricultural certificates

• can you provide a written quote that breaks down labour, materials, disposal and extras

• do you have specific qualifications for tree work and can you supply references for similar jobs

• how will you protect the patio, nearby planting and boundaries during works

• do you foresee needing a skip, scaffold or cherry picker and how will extra costs be agreed

How to Avoid Surprises

• clear access to the patio and tree base and remove furniture or pots

• reserve parking or inform tradie about vehicle restrictions for chipper or dumper

• point out underground services, irrigation and gas/water lines before work starts

• keep pets and children indoors during noisy or working‑at‑height operations

• check for tree preservation orders or neighbour consent and confirm who arranges permits
