Scope of Works

• Survey wall and measure for level and stud positions

• Locate hidden services with a detector and mark safe drill points

• Select and install appropriate fixings for wall type (plasterboard, brick, tile)

• Fit brackets or cleats and secure shelf boards, cutting to size if required

• Check horizontal and confirm load rating with customer

• Tidy area, remove small debris and haul away packaging or old shelving as agreed

Typically 1–2 hours for one or two standard shelves; larger runs, on-site cutting or bespoke joinery 3–6 hours; factors that extend time include difficult wall types, locating hidden services, and requirement for scaffolding

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• Have you installed shelves on this wall type before and can you show examples

• What fixings will you use and what load rating will they provide

• Do you supply shelf boards and can you match finish, or should I provide them

• Will you locate services and accept responsibility if concealed cables or pipes are damaged

• What are your lead times, payment terms and warranty on workmanship

How to Avoid Surprises

• Clear the area and remove fragile items from the wall and nearby surfaces

• Confirm parking or drop-off arrangements for tools and materials

• Provide access to power for chargers or cordless drills and ensure good lighting

• Tell the tradie about any known pipes, cables or hidden services and share plans if available

• Secure pets and keep children away during work, and agree access times for multiroom jobs
