Scope of Works

• attend the vehicle and assess scene and safety risks

• stabilise and secure the vehicle and apply wheel chocks if needed

• recover vehicle using a flatbed or hook-and-chain method depending on condition

• winch or access-recover vehicles from banks, ditches or tight spaces where safe to do so

• use appropriate PPE and contain minor fluid leaks to avoid contamination

• load, tie down and transport to the agreed destination (local garage, home address or scrapyard)

• provide paperwork and receipts and explain storage or disposal options

Typically 30–90 minutes on site for a straightforward tow; complex recoveries requiring winching, multi‑vehicle incidents or remote access can take 2–4 hours or longer

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• do you use a flatbed or hook-and-chain for my vehicle and why?

• what licences and insurance do you hold for recovery work?

• what extra charges might apply (winch, motorway, long-distance, out-of-hours)?

• do you charge storage or release fees and how are these calculated?

• what payment methods do you accept and will I get a VAT invoice?

• can you arrange scrap salvage or delivery to a named garage if required?

How to Avoid Surprises

• ensure there is space for the tow vehicle to park near the broken-down car

• leave keys accessible or tell the operator who has them

• move pets and keep bystanders clear of the recovery area

• tell your insurer and have vehicle details, location and photos ready

• check for parking restrictions or permits at the recovery location and inform the operator
