Scope of Works

• Isolate electrical supply and visually inspect fan, mounting, blades and accessible wiring

• test motor, capacitor and remote/receiver where fitted and measure supply at the ceiling connection

• tighten or replace loose fixings, balance blades and secure canopy or bracket

• replace common parts on site where possible (capacitor, blade set, pull switch, remote module) or advise if motor replacement is needed

• rewire or terminate to current wiring regs as required and test operation on all speeds and controls

• dispose of small replaced parts and leave a brief fault report; advise on any further works such as full replacement or scaffold

Most diagnostic visits and simple repairs take 1–3 hours on site including testing and tidying; replacing a motor or ordering parts can extend the job to a return visit or a half day

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• are you qualified to work on fixed wiring and will you isolate and test circuits before starting

• does your call‑out fee include diagnostics and a written estimate for further work

• which parts are commonly needed and what warranties do you provide on parts and labour

• will you need loft or external access and are there extra charges for working at height

• how will you protect floors and furniture and do you follow PPE and contamination control measures

• if parts need ordering how long will that take and do you charge for return visits

How to Avoid Surprises

• provide the fan model or a photo where possible so parts can be checked in advance

• clear the area under the fan and move fragile items out of the way

• check parking and access for a ladder or van and mention any narrow lanes or permit requirements

• advise your tradie about pets and provide safe access to lofts where needed

• confirm whether the job requires working at height permits or scaffolding in communal or listed buildings

• agree how replaced parts will be handled and whether you need a separate waste disposal or recycling charge
