Scope of Works

• Inspect the consumer unit and identify the blown fuse or faulty fuse carrier

• Isolate the relevant circuit or consumer unit before any work

• Replace the fuse link, cartridge fuse or faulty carrier with the correct rated component

• Carry out basic tests (continuity, polarity, RCD where applicable) and restore the circuit

• Label the replaced fuse and advise on the correct spare and rating

• Tidy the area, dispose of old parts safely and provide a brief written note of work carried out

• Are you a registered electrician (NICEIC, NAPIT or similar) and insured for this work

• Will you isolate the supply and provide a record or minor works certificate for the job

• What exactly is included in the price and what could trigger extra charges

• Do you carry the correct fuses and carriers or will parts need to be ordered

• Will replacing the fuse require turning off the whole property or just one circuit

• What guarantee do you offer for parts and labour

How to Avoid Surprises

• Clear access to the consumer unit and meter and provide any keys or entry info

• Leave a parking spot close to the property where possible

• Tell the electrician about any intermittent issues or previous fuse changes

• Secure pets and move fragile items away from the consumer unit area

• Check landlord or freeholder permission for work in communal areas if you live in a flat
