Scope of Works

• Remove existing carpet and underlay from hall, landing and stairs

• inspect and report on subfloor condition and any snagging that will affect fitting

• supply and fit gripper rods, underlay and carpet, cutting and joining on landings where needed

• stretch and secure carpet on stairs and at nosings, trim around doors and thresholds

• tidy and vacuum the work area and remove waste if disposal is agreed

• protect adjacent surfaces and brief homeowner on any safety or dust considerations

Most hall, landing and standard staircase installs take 2–6 hours depending on stair size and access; jobs extend to a full day where old flooring needs extensive removal, the subfloor requires repair, or pattern matching and extra trims are needed

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• are you insured and can you provide public liability cover details

• will the quote include removal and disposal of old carpet and any extra charges

• do you supply underlay and gripper or do I need to provide materials

• how many hours on site do you estimate and will you need help moving furniture

• how do you handle stair nosing and visible seams on landings

• can you provide references or photos of similar stair and landing installs

How to Avoid Surprises

• clear furniture and personal items from the hall, landing and stairs before the fitter arrives

• confirm parking or unload space for the fitter's van close to the property

• tell the fitter about any narrow doorways, awkward turns or listed building restrictions

• check whether you or the fitter are supplying underlay and nosing so costs are clear

• keep pets secured and let the fitter know about any access or timing restrictions
