Scope of Works

• Inspect stump and surroundings, check size, decay and proximity to structures

• Locate and mark underground services before any digging or grinding

• Grind stump using a stump grinder to an agreed depth (typically 10–30 cm below ground)

• Remove large exposed roots by hand digging if required and safe to do so

• Collect and either remove wood chippings from site or spread/backfill as agreed with the customer

• Leave site tidy and discuss options for treating regrowth or planting if requested

Time on Site

Most single small-stump jobs take 1–3 hours; larger stumps or multiple stumps typically take 3–6 hours. Time increases with difficult access, extensive root spread, proximity to buildings or services, need for hand-digging and poor weather; operatives will use PPE and may cordon the area for safety

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• Are you insured for public liability and for damage to drives or services

• What method will you use (grinder, dig out) and how deep will you grind

• Will you locate and avoid underground services and do you expect additional costs if services are present

• Is disposal included and how will you deal with the wood chippings

• Do you need access for plant or a clear vehicle space close to the work area

• Are you familiar with TPOs or local planning requirements and will you handle any necessary consents

How to Avoid Surprises

• Clear access and reserve parking near the work area for a van or small truck

• Point out any known underground services, drains or irrigation systems before work starts

• Tell the tradie about nearby structures, fences, patios or lawns that need protection

• Advise on any pets or neighbours who may be affected by noise or access

• Check whether disposal or leaving woodchip on site is included to avoid surprise fees
