• Chip arisings and leave wood chippings or load out for disposal

• Tidy boundaries and trim neighbouring hedges where requested

Most small garden trims take 1–3 hours; larger or multi‑tree jobs can take 1–2 days. Factors that extend time on site include tree size and condition, access limitations requiring specialist kit, work near buildings or power lines, and whether operatives need to lower large sections by rope

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• Are you an arboriculture‑qualified operative (e.g., NPTC/City & Guilds) and insured

• What pruning methods will you use and how much crown reduction do you recommend

• How will you manage arisings and is disposal included in the quote

• Do you have experience working near power lines or in confined access

• Will you need a road closure, scaffolding or a cherry picker and who arranges it

• Can you provide a written quote with start date, payment terms and any exclusions

How to Avoid Surprises

• Ensure clear parking near the work area for vans and trailers

• Give access to gardens and secure pets before arrival

• Point out underground services and boundary positions in advance

• Agree disposal options beforehand (takeaway, skip, or chip and leave)

• Check for tree preservation orders (TPOs) or neighbour permissions where applicable
