Scope of Works

• Protect floors, carpets and fixed furniture with dust sheets and masking

• inspect and fill cracks, nail holes and minor plaster defects and sand smooth

• apply primer/sealer where needed and two coats of chosen emulsion or wood paint to walls, ceilings and trim

• paint skirting, door frames and window trim in satin/egg-shell where specified and cut in around fittings

• minor wallpaper removal or paper scoring and surface preparation quoted separately

• clear up, remove paint waste and leave site tidy; recommend ventilation and advise on drying times

• operatives will use basic PPE; discuss containment if there are concerns about mould or dust

Typical bungalow redecorations take 1–3 days for a small 1–2 bedroom property and 3–7 days for a larger 2–3 bedroom bungalow; longer if extensive prep or wallpaper removal is needed or if drying times require gaps between coats

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• are you insured for public liability and do you carry PRS/works insurance for painters

• how many coats and which brands/types of paint do you recommend for ceilings, walls and woodwork

• what prep is included and what would be extra (e.g. plaster repairs, wallpaper removal)

• will you move furniture and fixtures, or do I need to clear rooms beforehand

• what is the expected start date, daily working hours and estimated completion date

• do you provide a written quote and what are payment terms and any guarantees on workmanship

How to Avoid Surprises

• ensure clear access and a parking space close to the bungalow for vans and materials

• remove or cover high-value items and fragile possessions before work starts

• tell the tradie about existing mould, damp or asbestos concerns so they can quote correctly and bring suitable PPE

• check building or estate rules for times when contractors can work and any permit requirements

• agree in writing any extras such as wallpaper stripping, coving repair or colour changes to avoid later disputes
