Scope of Works

• Survey roofline, eaves, fascias, soffits, bargeboards and gutters to confirm scope of painting and repairs

• determine and set up safe access—ladder, temporary staging, scaffold or MEWP depending on height and fall risk

• prepare surfaces by cleaning, removing moss/loose material and light sanding where needed (specialist moss treatments quoted separately)

• carry out minor repairs to timber or metal flashings (filling, securing loose boards) before priming and painting

• apply primer and one or two coats of exterior paint/coating to agreed areas (fascias, soffits, bargeboards, gutter exteriors and exposed timber)

• protect gutters, windows, plants and hard surfaces with sheeting and remove protective coverings at completion

• clear site, dispose of scrap and provide a handover note on any repairs or follow‑up work required

Small touch‑ups and single elevation work 1–2 hours; typical full roofline paint with scaffold 1–2 days; time increases if scaffold hire, rotten timber repairs, multiple elevations, restricted access or poor weather

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• Do you provide or arrange scaffold/MEWP and include that cost in the quote?

• Are you insured for working at height and do you carry public liability and employer’s liability cover?

• What paint brand, specification and expected coats do you propose and is there a product warranty?

• Will you inspect and quote separately for any rotten timber or metalwork repairs before painting?

• How will you protect gutters, windows and landscaping and what do you need me to move or cover?

• Do you need street permits or neighbour access for scaffold and how is that arranged?

How to Avoid Surprises

• clear immediate external areas and park vehicles to allow scaffold or van access

• tell trades about fragile rooflights, solar panels and satellite dishes before work starts

• expect weather delays and agree a window of days for completion rather than a fixed date if outside

• confirm who organises and pays for scaffold, permits and neighbour notices ahead of the quote

• advise the tradie of pets, alarms or restricted hours for noisy or elevated work
