Scope of Works

• inspect ceiling for damage, stains, loose plaster or textured finishes

• make minor repairs: fill cracks, re-skim small areas and sand smooth

• spot-prime stains or repaired areas to prevent bleed-through

• apply undercoat and 1–2 topcoats of ceiling paint to an even finish

• work at height using a stable ladder, tower or scaffold where needed

• protect and mask floors, furniture and fittings and clear site on completion

Most single-room ceilings take 3–6 hours; textured or high ceilings usually 1–2 days. Time is extended by extensive repairs, stain treatment, multiple coats, drying times and scaffold erection

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• how many ceilings like mine have you painted recently

• do you include prep, minor repairs and priming in the price

• what paint brand, sheen and number of coats do you recommend

• how will you work at height and do you have public liability insurance

• will you move or protect light fittings and flooring and is clean-up included

• what extra charges apply for high ceilings, textured surfaces or scaffold hire

How to Avoid Surprises

• clear the room of valuables and loose furniture or confirm if tradie will move items

• ensure good access and parking close to the property for vans and scaffold delivery

• tell the tradie about existing stains, previous coatings or suspected lead paint

• agree who supplies scaffold or tower and confirm any building access rules

• ventilate the room during and after work and keep pets away from the work area
