Scope of Works

• inspect walls, ceiling and trim to assess preparation and any mould or damp that needs specialist treatment

• move small furniture and fit dust sheets and protective coverings with operatives using PPE

• fill cracks and nail holes, sand loose paint and carry out minor plaster repairs where needed

• apply primer/undercoat to repaired or porous areas and then two coats of trade emulsion to walls and ceilings as agreed

• mask and paint skirtings, door frames and window trim to match or as specified

• clear site, remove small amounts of waste and leave painted surfaces ready for redecoration

Most single rooms take 4–8 hours on site including prep, priming and two coats; factors that extend this are major plaster repairs, high ceilings, multiple colours or limited access

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• how many coats are included and do you include primer or undercoat

• which paint brands and finishes do you recommend and can i supply my own paint

• do you carry out minor plaster repairs and how will larger repairs be quoted

• will you move furniture and cover floors or do i need to clear the room beforehand

• what insurance do you have and can you provide proof of public liability cover

• do you provide a written quotation and a small works timescale with start and finish dates

How to Avoid Surprises

• check access and parking for the vans and tell the painter about any permit or restricted hours

• clear or protect valuables and fragile items and confirm who moves larger furniture

• agree paint brand, sheen and exact colours in writing before work starts

• tell the tradie about pets, ventilation needs and any sensitive occupants such as babies or those with respiratory issues

• check whether elevated work requires scaffold or a permit and agree who arranges it
