Scope of Works

• Inspect waste, basin trap and visible outlet to identify location of blockage

• remove and clean the U-bend/trap and check seals for leaks

• clear the outlet using hand rods, auger or compressed-air tools depending on cause

• carry out CCTV inspection or high-pressure jetting if blockage is deeper in the drain

• test flow, reassemble trap with new seals if needed and advise on cause and prevention

• remove and responsibly dispose of waste; tradie to wear PPE for contamination control

Most straightforward basin unblocks take 1–2 hours on site; complex blockages, CCTV surveys or jetting can extend this to 2–4 hours or require a follow-up visit

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• How will you identify the blockage and do you use CCTV for diagnosis?

• What methods will you try first and what would trigger jetting or a specialist call-out?

• Do you charge a call-out fee if you do not clear the blockage on first visit?

• Will you remove the trap and clean it on site and is re-sealing included?

• Are you insured and do you carry a waste carrier registration for contaminated waste?

• How will you protect surrounding surfaces and what PPE will you use for hygiene control?

How to Avoid Surprises

• clear out under-sink cupboards and remove personal items

• ensure easy parking or give exact access instructions for flats with restricted bays

• tell the tradie about prior DIY fixes, waterproofing or mould issues

• check building or management rules if drain access is in a communal area

• mention pets and provide a safe place for them while work is carried out
