Scope of Works

• Inspect the back door frame and existing glazed unit to assess breakage and whether frame repairs are needed

• Remove broken glass safely, bag and clear shards for disposal

• Measure and fit a replacement glazed unit (toughened, laminated or double glazed as agreed)

• Replace glazing beads, seals and minor frame timber or uPVC repairs to ensure a weatherproof fit

• Clean and make good surrounding areas, tidy up debris and leave site safe

• Use PPE when handling glass (gloves, goggles) and take care to protect flooring and nearby finishes

Typically 1–3 hours on site for a standard pane replacement; bespoke units, frame repairs, remote access or waiting for a replacement unit can extend this to a half‑day or longer

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• Are you insured and can you provide a copy of your public liability insurance

• What type of glass do you recommend for the door (toughened, laminated, double glazed) and why

• Do you include glazing beads, seals and minor frame repairs in the quote or charge extra

• What guarantee do you offer on the glass and workmanship and will I get a written receipt

• How long will the replacement unit take to order and fit, and do you keep a temporary board if needed

• Will you remove the old glass and disposal costs be included in the quote

How to Avoid Surprises

• clear a 2 m working area inside and outside the back door and remove breakables from the vicinity

• reserve nearby parking or let the tradie know parking restrictions to avoid delays

• secure children and pets away from the work area and inform the tradie of any mobility issues

• tell the tradie about security fittings, secondary glazing or conservation area restrictions before they quote

• check whether scaffolding or working-at-height permits are needed for high or upper-floor doors and agree who arranges them

• ensure reasonable access to a power supply if requested and move valuable items away from door sightlines
