Scope of Works

• inspect sash frame, beads and glazing putty and record any rot or sash movement

• remove broken or failed pane, take safe precautions and clear glass for disposal

• measure and fit replacement glass (float, toughened or laminated as agreed) and re-bed with appropriate glazing compound or beads

• check sash cords, pulleys and weights and report or replace if they affect glazing work

• finish with minimal paint or putty touch-ups and clear site of debris; provide advice on draught proofing if requested

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• do you provide a written quote showing labour, materials and call-out

• will you use toughened or laminated glass and is it needed for safety or regulations

• how do you handle broken glass and what PPE will you and your team use

• if the frame needs repair will you carry that out and how does that affect cost and time

• do you have public liability insurance and can you provide references for sash work

How to Avoid Surprises

• ensure clear access to the window and a nearby parking space for a van

• tell the trader if the property is listed or in a conservation area so they can check consents

• expect a return visit for special-order glass or frame repairs; confirm lead times up front

• remove fragile items and keep pets and children away from the working area

• check whether scaffold or a tower is needed and who will organise/hire it before the job
