Scope of Works

• Remove existing door furniture and assess frame for rot

• Take down old door slab and dispose

• Fit new door slab, adjust frame, hinges and threshold for correct swing

• Install or re-fit locks, letterplate, draught excluder and other ironmongery

• Prepare surfaces, fill gaps and sand edges, then apply primer to both faces

• Apply 1–2 topcoats of exterior door paint, mask and protect adjacent areas, and leave site tidy

Most standard front door removal, fitting and painting jobs take 3–6 hours on site; drying time between coats can extend the overall completion to 1–2 days depending on weather and paint type

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• Do you supply the door slab and ironmongery or do I need to buy them?

• Is your quote for supply and fit including primer, two coats of paint and materials?

• How many days will the job take including drying time and when will the door be usable?

• Will you make good or charge extra for frame repairs, rot treatment or structural work?

• Do you carry public liability insurance and can you provide a written quote and timescale?

• How will you protect floors, glazing and letterbox and what PPE will you and your team use?

How to Avoid Surprises

• Ensure clear access to the front of the property and nearby parking for the van

• Check if you need permission from freeholder, management company or local authority

• Agree where materials and waste will be stored and who removes the old door

• Confirm availability of an electrical supply for tools or advise if a generator is needed

• Plan for paint drying times and keep pets and children away until paint is fully cured
