Scope of Works

• Inspect external frame, glazing and seals and record defects

• replace cracked or failed double‑glazed units where safe to do so

• renew seals, beading and putty and re‑pack sashes to stop draughts

• repair or replace locks, hinges and handles to restore operation

• remove and dispose of broken glass and any rotten timber; advise if full frame replacement is needed

• apply external sealant and carry out basic weatherproofing and finish

Most single exterior window repairs take 1–3 hours on site; replacing a full frame or working on multiple upstairs windows can take 1–2 days and may require scaffold or a MEWP

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• do you charge a call‑out fee and is it deducted from the final quote

• can you supply the exact parts (sealed units, locks) and what are lead times

• will you need scaffold or a MEWP and who arranges and insures that

• how do you handle broken glass and site contamination and do you wear PPE

• do you provide a written quote and guarantee for parts and labour

How to Avoid Surprises

• ensure clear external access and an agreed safe working area for ladders or scaffold

• let the tradie know if windows are above ground floor or over a pavement so they can quote for MEWP/scaffold

• arrange parking or a loading bay for materials and confirm where waste can be left

• check building or estate rules about working hours, scaffold and neighbour notifications

• make the tradie aware of pets, fragile internal finishes and any insurance requirements
