Scope of Works

• Inspect door, frame and threshold to diagnose movement, rot or broken fittings

• Check and test locks, handles and multi-point mechanisms for wear or misalignment

• Adjust or replace hinges, strike plates and weather bars to improve operation

• Repair or replace rotted timber panels and rebalance the door where possible

• Fit new lock cylinders or entire lock sets when repair is not possible

• Re-seal and draught-proof jambs and thresholds to restore weatherproofing

• Clean up debris, test final operation and explain any remaining issues

Most routine front door repairs take 1–3 hours on site; replacing a door leaf or carrying out extensive timber repairs may take a half day (3–5 hours). Factors that extend time on site include complex multi-point locks, rotten frames needing off-site repair, parts not available immediately and restricted access

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• Do you have experience with my door material/type (timber, uPVC, composite)?

• Can you supply and fit replacement locks and will they be to UK/insurance standard?

• How do you charge — call-out plus hourly or fixed price for the repair?

• Will you need to order parts and how long will that add to completion?

• Do you carry public liability insurance and can you provide a written quote?

• What access or preparation do you need from me on the day?

How to Avoid Surprises

• Provide clear access to the door and clear a 2–3 metre work area outside if possible

• Arrange parking or a drop-off space for tools near the property and tell the tradie about restrictions

• Tell the tradie if the door is in a communal area, leasehold building or subject to management rules

• Keep pets restrained and remove fragile items near the working area

• Agree in advance whether original locks are to be returned and how spoil will be handled
