Scope of Works

• Inspect damaged leg and joints to assess cause and scope of repair

• tighten loose screws and bolts and re‑secure wobbly joints

• re‑glue and clamp joints or replace broken dowels and reinforce with suitable fixings

• fit a replacement leg where repair is not viable, cutting and aligning to original height

• sand and touch up stain or lacquer to blend the repair where requested

• final stability and safety check including weight testing of repaired chair

Most single dining chair leg repairs take 30–90 minutes on site; replacing a matched turned leg or working on multiple chairs usually takes 1–3 hours. Time increases if a matching leg must be ordered, extensive rot is found, upholstery needs removal, or glue requires drying between stages

• have you repaired this type of chair leg before and can you show photos of similar work

• will you repair the joint or replace the whole leg and how will you match wood and finish

• will the repair require removing upholstery or the seat and does that affect cost

• how long does adhesive need to cure and do you charge for return visits

• do you carry replacement legs or will one need to be ordered and how long is delivery

• what warranty do you provide on the repair and on any parts supplied

How to Avoid Surprises

• clear a work area and protect floors with a sheet or drop cloth

• have the chair to hand and note which leg is damaged and any historic repairs

• confirm parking or drop‑off for the tradesperson and access if you live in a block of flats

• ask whether the tradie will use dust sheets and PPE when sanding or finishing

• tell the tradie about pets or restricted hours so timing and safety can be planned
