Scope of Works

• inspect door, frame and gap to floor covering

• remove door from hinges and take off handles if needed

• mark and trim underside with a plane or saw to achieve required clearance

• sand and apply edge sealant or preservative to the cut area

• refit and adjust hinges, latch and strike plate for correct operation

• use dust control and PPE (mask and goggles); stop and advise if the door is fire rated

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• are you happy to trim this type of internal door (eg. fire‑rated or glazed)

• will you remove and refit the door and hardware as part of the price

• do you charge by the hour or offer a fixed price for a single door trim

• what tools will you use and how will you control dust and debris

• do you provide sealing or painting of the cut edge and is that included

• will you dispose of offcuts and do you guarantee the work

How to Avoid Surprises

• confirm if doors are fire rated — trimming may void certification

• clear access and remove mats, rugs or furniture around the door

• have final floorcoverings in place so the fitter can check exact clearance

• provide parking close to the property or tell the tradie about permit restrictions

• secure or relocate pets and children; expect some dust and cover fragile items
