Scope of Works

• measure and mark timber to the required sizes on site

• cut boards, joists and panels using appropriate saws and blades

• trim and test-fit pieces for doors, skirting, shelving or repairs

• sand or deburr fresh edges and apply basic finishing if requested

• remove offcuts and bag waste for disposal

• use dust control and PPE and protect surrounding surfaces

Simple cuts for trimming doors or cutting a few boards typically take 15–60 minutes. More complex work such as structural cuts, multiple bespoke pieces or cutting at height usually takes 1–4 hours. Factors that extend time include difficult access, templates and measuring, additional fitting and finishing work, and the need for scaffolding or permits.

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• can you confirm your experience cutting the particular timber or task

• will you cut on site or off-site and how will that affect cost

• which tools and blades will you use and how will you control dust

• do you include protective coverings and clean-up in the quote

• how do you dispose of offcuts and is skip hire needed

• do you have public liability insurance and can you provide a quote in writing

How to Avoid Surprises

• ensure clear, level access and mark the exact cut lines

• reserve parking or easy unloading space close to the work area

• move or cover furniture and fragile items before arrival

• provide access to a power supply or confirm battery tool use

• tell the tradie about any asbestos, damp or hidden services

• check building rules or flat‑owner permissions for external works
