Scope of Works

• Remove existing door and take off hinges and ironmongery, labelling parts if to be refitted

• inspect and prepare the frame, square up, pack out or plane as required

• fit new or refurbished door into the existing frame, cutting and trimming to achieve correct reveal

• fit hinges and latch/lock or multipoint mechanism, set strike plate and test operation and security

• fit architrave/threshold, adjust for floor coverings and make minor repairs to the frame as needed

• clear up and remove waste from site, leave area swept and point out any further remedial work needed

Most internal door hangings take 1–3 hours; simple hinge adjustments and latch fitting are at the lower end. Jobs that include frame replacement, fitting a fire door, bespoke joinery or extensive trimming can extend to a day or require a return visit

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• do you supply the door and ironmongery or charge to fit customer-supplied doors

• are you experienced with fire doors and can you provide certification and any necessary trims

• how long will the job take and will you need to return for adjustments

• what warranty do you offer on workmanship and on any supplied products

• will you dispose of the old door and is there an extra charge for waste removal

• do you charge for additional work such as frame replacement, rebating or architrave fitting

How to Avoid Surprises

• clear a 1.5–2m working area and remove obstructions from both sides of the door

• protect floors and soft furnishings with covers and point out any delicate finishes beforehand

• check access and parking for a van near the property for materials and waste removal

• confirm whether you want a pre-hung frame or just hanging to avoid onsite surprises

• check with building management or neighbours for permissions if the door is in a communal area

• keep pets and children away during work and ensure power is available for cutting tools; tradie will use PPE and dust protection
