Scope of Works

• Remove existing internal door, hinges and latch and dispose if agreed

• Check and square the existing frame, pack or plane jambs as required

• Trim new or existing door to height, cut mortices and fit hinges and latch

• Fit and adjust handle, strike plate and ensure smooth operation and correct swing

• Refit or replace architrave and threshold and make good minor plaster or skirting

• Final adjustments, clean-up and basic checks; tradesperson will use PPE and dust sheets where needed

Time on Site

Most single internal doors take 1–2 hours on site for hanging and adjustments; supply-and-fit or minor frame alterations typically 2–4 hours; multiple doors or full frame replacement can take a day or two. Factors that extend time include warped frames, plaster repairs, specialist locks and restricted access

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• Do you supply doors and hardware or do you quote labour-only?

• Are you a joiner/carpenter and can you show examples of similar internal door installs?

• Will you check and confirm whether the door needs to be fire‑rated or fitted with intumescent strips?

• Is disposal of the old door included and are there extra charges for waste removal?

• How long is the lead time for materials and what happens if additional work is found on site?

• Do you provide a written estimate and warranty for the door hanging work?

How to Avoid Surprises

• Measure and confirm door sizes and state whether you will supply the door before the visit

• Clear access, move furniture and provide a parking space or permit if street parking is restricted

• Tell the tradie about narrow corridors, stairs or tight bends that could affect door delivery

• Mention any fire-door requirements, multi-point locks or high-security hardware in advance

• Secure pets and children and cover carpets if you are concerned about dust
