Scope of Works

• measure and site survey and confirm levels and access

• strip existing turf and vegetation; treat or dispose any contaminated areas

• excavate and form sub‑base, lay and compact MOT Type 1 or crushed aggregate

• install geotextile membrane and edge restraints

• lay artificial turf, trim, join seams and secure with galvanised nails or adhesive

• apply infill (sand/silica), brush up and compact the pile

• tidy, remove waste, and carry out a final inspection with maintenance advice

Small areas up to 20 m² typically 1 day; medium 20–60 m² typically 1–2 days; larger areas 60–200 m² typically 2–4 days Factors that extend time include poor ground conditions, depth of subbase required, drainage or tree root work, restricted access, bad weather or discovery of contamination

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• do you include supply of the turf and subbase materials in the price

• what grade or specification of turf will you use and can I see a sample or datasheet

• is drainage and edging included or quoted separately

• do you remove existing turf and dispose of waste and is skip hire charged

• do you provide a written quote with a fixed price, start date and completion estimate

• what guarantee do you offer on workmanship and materials and what does it cover

How to Avoid Surprises

• clear the area of furniture and ornaments and ensure gates and access routes are available

• confirm parking or a laydown area for materials and notify neighbours if access passes across their land

• point out any buried services, inspection chambers, tree roots or drainage issues before work starts

• agree who is responsible for boundary edging and any party wall or neighbour permissions

• check that tree work or permits are not needed and be prepared for extra cost if ground is contaminated

• make sure pets are secured during works and that the tradie has a single point of contact on site
