Scope of Works

• Survey garden layout, water supply position and any existing irrigation

• design zones and select sprinkler heads or dripline to suit planting and slopes

• trench and lay pipework, install valves, manifold and isolation points

• install controller/timer and wiring; electrician may be required for mains supply

• pressure test and commission system, set run times and demonstrate operation

• reinstate turf/soil, tidy site and remove waste or spoil

Most straightforward domestic installs take 3–6 hours; larger gardens, multiple zones or jobs requiring an electrician or deep trenching can take 1–2 days. Weather, hidden services and reinstatement requirements extend time on site

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• do you include a written quote that breaks down labour, materials and extras?

• will you need access to the mains stopcock or an electrician to connect the controller?

• what warranty do you provide on labour and on components such as the controller and valves?

• will you locate and avoid buried services and do you carry public liability insurance?

• how do you handle turf reinstatement and what additional costs may apply for hard surfaces?

How to Avoid Surprises

• give clear access to the garden, remove obstructions and unlock gates

• reserve kerbside parking or let the tradie know parking restrictions in advance

• mark or tell the tradie about buried services or known drainage runs

• check for permissions if you live in a leasehold/flat with communal gardens or need planning consent

• secure pets and store fragile pots before work starts
