Scope of Works

• Inspect lawn and site access and note slopes and drainage

• remove existing turf and surface vegetation with turf cutter or by hand

• clear debris, break up compacted soil and remove stones or roots that impede laying

• supply and spread topsoil or sand as required to level and improve drainage

• lay turf rolls to pattern, butt joints, trim edges and roll for contact

• tidy site, remove arisings and advise on initial watering and aftercare

Time on Site

Small lawns (20–40m²) typically take 3–6 hours; larger or uneven sites and those needing extra topsoil or drainage work can take 1–2 days. Factors that extend time include poor access, heavy compaction, bad weather and extra soil deliveries

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• what turf varieties do you recommend for this site and soil type

• is supply of turf and topsoil included in the quote or shown separately

• will you test the soil and charge for additional topsoil, sand or drainage work

• do you include waste removal and how will arisings be disposed of

• can you provide evidence of public liability insurance and recent references or photos

• what warranty or aftercare do you offer and what care do you expect from me after handover

How to Avoid Surprises

• provide clear access and book parking close for deliveries

• move garden furniture, pots and fragile plants out of the work area

• tell the tradie about buried services, drains, tree roots or communal restrictions

• keep pets and children away during works and expect contractors to wear PPE

• agree start date and a contingency plan for wet weather and soil deliveries
