Scope of Works

• Attend site and verify authorisation to access the property. • Identify lock type (euro cylinder, mortice, rim night‑latch, multipoint) and best non‑destructive entry method. • Pick, decode or bypass the lock; if impossible, drill and replace cylinder or mortice case. • Supply and fit new keys / cylinders where needed, cut additional keys on site if requested. • Check door alignment, adjust keeps or hinges to ensure smooth re‑locking. • Remove debris, lubricate mechanisms and provide security advice.

Time on Site

30 – 60 minutes for straightforward pick or snap‑resist cylinder swap.

Up to 1½ hours if drilling hardened steel inserts, adjusting warped doors, or fitting multi‑point gearbox. Factors extending time include out‑of‑alignment frames, concealed bolts, security bolts, or need to source specialist parts.

Questions to Ask Your Trade

1. Are you MLA‑approved or DBS‑checked, and can you show ID on arrival?

2. Will you attempt non‑destructive entry first and only drill as a last resort?

3. What cylinders do you carry on the van and do they meet BS 3621 / TS 007 standards?

4. Is the quoted price inclusive of VAT, new keys and any follow‑up adjustment?

5. How long is the warranty on parts and workmanship?

6. Can you cut extra keys on site, and at what additional cost?

How to Avoid Surprises

• Confirm door details: Provide the exact door and lock type when booking (send a photo if possible).

• Reserve parking: Ensure clear parking close to the entrance—locksmiths carry heavy toolboxes.

• ID ready: Have proof of ID and property ownership or tenancy documents available for verification.

• Security systems: Inform if there’s an alarm, access control system, or security chain installed.

• Pets notice: Advise if pets are indoors; drilling can be noisy.

• Rates check: Confirm if out-of-hours rates apply for evening or weekend call-outs.
