Scope of Works

• inspect the existing lock and door alignment to identify the correct replacement or cylinder type

• remove and dispose of the old lock or cylinder where required

• supply and fit a new euro cylinder, mortice or multipoint lock as agreed

• cut and code required keys (usually 1–3 standard keys; restricted or dimple keys may take longer)

• test locking operation, adjust keeps/strikes and demonstrate use to the client

• provide advice on additional security (anti-snap cylinders, upgraded multipoint) and record key codes for future ordering

Most domestic lock changes and key cutting take 30–90 minutes on site; replacing a multipoint mechanism, repairing a damaged frame or sourcing restricted keys can extend this to 2–4 hours or require a return visit

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• can you supply and fit the approved cylinder/lock type for my door (upvc, timber, metal)

• do you hold insurance and can you provide ID and a written estimate before starting

• how many keys will you cut and are restricted/dimple keys available today

• what happens if the cylinder is seized or a key needs drilling out—do you charge extra for specialist work

• can you provide anti-snap or insurance-compliant cylinders and does fitting affect my home insurance

• payment methods and whether a deposit is required for parts or after-hours attendance

How to Avoid Surprises

• clear the area around the door and leave original keys if available

• confirm parking or permit requirements for the tradesperson to avoid delays

• check leasehold or building manager rules for communal doors and obtain any required permission

• tell the tradie about any known restricted or boarded-up keys and if a key has snapped inside the lock

• secure pets and ensure good lighting for external work or late appointments
