Scope of Works

• Inspect existing lock, door handing, cylinder type and frame condition

• remove existing lock, cylinder and handles and assess for re-use

• fit new lock body, euro cylinder or mortice lock and new handles, aligning strike plate

• carry out minor routing or chiselling of the mortice where required for correct fit

• test locking and key operation, adjust keeps and striker plate for smooth operation

• basic tidy and removal of small debris; use PPE and dust protection where needed

Most lock and handle replacements take 30 minutes–2 hours depending on door type and whether the frame needs work

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• do you supply the lock and cylinder or should I buy them

• is my door and frame suitable for the chosen lock and will you need to alter the frame

• do you fit anti-snap/anti-bump cylinders and what warranty is included

• how do you charge for small jobs — call-out, fixed price or time and materials

• will you need to make visible alterations to the door or paintwork and can you recommend repairs

• do you carry public liability insurance and can you provide a reference or photos of similar jobs

How to Avoid Surprises

• check and note door thickness, handing and backset before the visit

• clear the work area and protect carpets or floors to minimise damage

• reserve nearby parking or advise of permit restrictions for timely arrival

• have replacement lock options ready or ask the tradie to quote for alternatives in advance

• inform the tradie of communal building rules, alarms or restricted access before booking
