Scope of Works

• Initial survey & ID check – confirm door type, lock grade, security standard and cause of fault.

• Gain entry or remove old lock using non‑destructive methods where possible.

• Service, re‑pin or re‑key cylinders; replace springs, cams or followers when worn.

• Install new lock hardware (euro cylinder, night latch, 5‑lever mortice, smart module) to BS3621 where required.

• Realign strike plate & hinges so latch engages smoothly and door seals correctly.

• Test operation & issue paperwork – new keys, BS sticker, MLA invoice for insurance, waste‑transfer note for removed parts.

• Typical: 30 – 90 minutes for straightforward gain‑entry or cylinder change.

• Up to 2 hours: seized screws, corroded mortice, or UPVC multi‑point adjustment.

• Half‑day: multiple doors, smart‑lock setup, or boarding‑up after a break‑in.
  

Questions to Ask Your Trade

1. What lock grade & brand will you fit – does it meet BS3621 for insurance?

2. Is your quote fixed‑price or hourly after the call‑out period ends?

3. How many new keys come with the lock and can you cut spares on site?

4. Will you reuse the existing aperture or charge extra for carpentry?

5. What warranty covers parts and workmanship?

6. Are you MLA‑approved & DBS‑checked for residential security work?

7. Do you charge extra for evenings or weekends, and how much?
   

How to Avoid Surprises

• Send clear photos of the door edge, lock face and keyway so the locksmith brings correct parts.

• Reserve parking close to the entrance for tool cases and extraction vice.

• Clear the hallway and keep pets secured to speed up access.

• Check insurance wording before work – some policies specify BS‑rated locks.

• Agree on a maximum spend before drilling or replacing high‑security hardware.

• Ask for old parts back to verify genuine replacements and deter fraud.
