Most routine repairs take 1–3 hours; diagnostic-only visits are often 30–90 minutes. Larger repairs (clutch, gearbox, major engine work) typically take a half day to several days depending on parts availability, corrosion or additional faults uncovered during strip-down

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• Explain the fault and show any failed parts

• Provide a written estimate that itemises parts, labour and VAT

• Confirm whether replacement parts are new, remanufactured or used and state warranty length

• Say if the vehicle will be kept overnight and whether a courtesy car or collection is available

• Clarify diagnostic charges and whether further tests incur extra cost

• Confirm payment methods, deposit requirements and cancellation terms

How to Avoid Surprises

• Leave clear space around the vehicle and ensure keys and documents are accessible

• Check parts lead times for less common models and agree who orders parts

• Arrange parking or permits close to the garage if street parking is limited

• Remove personal belongings and disconnect dash cams if required

• Ask for disposal of fluids and batteries to be included in the quote

• Get agreement in writing for any work above an agreed spend limit
