Scope of Works

• Inspect windscreen inside and outside to assess scratch depth, location and visibility impact

• Determine whether scratches are superficial polishable marks or deep gouges that need replacement

• Clean and mask surrounding trim, seals and paint to protect surfaces and control dust

• Use graded abrasives and polishing compounds with a powered polisher, working progressively to restore clarity

• Apply finishing polish or protective coating and inspect from driver’s viewpoint for distortion or remaining damage

• Advise if the scratch is beyond repair and recommend windscreen replacement or stone‑chip repair where relevant

• Collect and dispose of waste pads and cloths, and wipe down the interior to remove polish residue

Most buffing jobs take about 30–90 minutes on site for a single small scratch; factors that extend time include multiple or deep scratches requiring repeated passes, the need to protect or remove trims, ADAS camera checks, poor light or restricted parking, and cure time for any protective coatings

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• Can you show before‑and‑after photos from similar scratch buffing jobs

• How deep is the scratch and will buffing restore optical clarity for the driver

• Could the work affect ADAS cameras/sensors and do you check calibration after polishing

• What guarantee or warranty do you offer on the polish and how long does it last

• Do you need access to the vehicle keys or to keep the car for longer if replacement is needed

• Are there any additional charges for poor access, inside vehicle protection or rescheduling

How to Avoid Surprises

• Park the vehicle on level ground with room to work around all sides and ensure good natural or artificial light

• Remove personal items and valuables from the dash and cover seats to protect from dust and polishing residue

• Tell the tradie about any ADAS cameras, aftermarket films or previous windscreen repairs before work starts

• Check whether the technician needs access to a mains supply or brings battery‑powered tools

• Confirm parking permits or restrictions if public parking is used and agree an approximate arrival window to avoid delays
