Scope of Works

• Pre-install brief: agree dash-cam model(s), memory card, parking-mode needs and camera positions.

• Power-off & protection: isolate the 12 V battery or pull the relevant fuse; cover trim to avoid marks.

• Cable routing & hard-wiring: run low-profile power lead behind A-pillar airbags to the fuse-box, add a piggy-back fuse and earth, or use OBD/ battery-pack as specified.

• Mounting & alignment: clean glass, fit the adhesive/suction mount behind the rear-view mirror (or rear screen for 2-ch systems) and set lens angle.

• Commissioning: label the new circuit, configure date-stamp, resolution and parking-mode cut-off, and update firmware if required.

• Test & hand-over: road-test recording, demonstrate file download and issue warranty / F-Gas-compliant* service record (if refrigerant lines disturbed on some EVs).

• Clear site, refit trim and remove packaging.

• 45 – 90 minutes for a single front camera in an average car; installers book a one-hour slot, with most jobs finishing sooner. 

• 1½ – 3 hours if fitting a front + rear set, routing through tailgate grommets, or working on SUVs, vans or vehicles with complex trim. 

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

1. Are you an IMI-qualified auto electrician and do you guarantee the wiring for at least 12 months?

2. Does the quote include a hard-wire kit, fuse taps and memory card, or should I supply them?

3. Will the camera power down before the battery is low (parking-mode cut-off)?

4. How will you route the cable past A-pillar airbags to keep safety systems intact?

5. Is there a call-back charge if I have SD-card or power issues during the warranty period?

6. Will you update the camera firmware and set the date/time before hand-over?

7. Do you need access to my driveway or a dry workspace if the weather turns?

How to Avoid Surprises

• Send the installer make, model & a photo of your fuse box so they bring the right fuse taps.

• Reserve parking next to the car and unlock all doors for trim removal.

• Remove dash ornaments and empty the 12 V socket if it’s currently used for chargers.

• Check SD-card spec (U3 class, 128 GB max on many units) before the day.

• Confirm whether you need a rear - cam loom run through a tailgate—adds time.

• If you want 24 h parking mode, ask about an auxiliary battery pack to avoid draining the main battery.
