Armchair Repair Guide

Scope of Works

• Inspect chair on-site, confirm defects (fabric tear, loose joints, sagging springs, recliner failure).

• Isolate work area; strip back fabric or dust-cover to expose frame and internals.

• Repair or reglue timber frame, replace broken dowels/blocks, or tighten fixings.

• Renew or retension webbing, springs or elasticated seat support as required.

• Patch, stitch, or replace torn fabric/leather panels; colour-match dyes where needed.

• Re-stuff cushions or replace foam inserts; re-attach dust covers and trim.

• Level and stabilise legs; fit new glides or castors.

• Final clean, Scotch-guard or leather balm (if agreed), and issue workmanship/parts warranty note.

Time on Site

1 – 3 hours for on-site repairs. Longer if: extensive frame damage, recliner motor replacement, specialist leather colour-matching, or if the chair must be taken to a workshop for curing/press-clamping.

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

1. Do you specialise in my chair’s fabric/leather type and brand?

2. Will the call-out fee be deducted from the final invoice if I proceed?

3. Can you confirm your parts & workmanship warranty period?

4. Do you carry common webbing and foam sizes on the van today?

5. Will any replacement fabric be an exact match, or a contrast insert?

6. Are there extra charges for collection/return or upper-floor access?

7. How will you protect my flooring and surrounding furniture during the repair?
   

How to Avoid Surprises

• Access: Measure doors & stairs; clear at least 1 m path to the work area.

• Parking: Arrange a nearby space or visitor permit for the van.

• Workspace: Provide a well-lit 2 × 2 m area and cover floors.

• Power: Ensure a socket is free for low-torque driver or glue gun.

• Time: Flag if the room is in constant use (nursery, lounge) so scheduling can avoid peak times.

• Hidden damage: Mention any previous DIY fixes or spills that may affect adhesive cure.
