Stool Repair Service Guide

Scope of Works

• Inspect stool for loose joints, cracked legs, missing stretchers or torn upholstery; confirm repair method with you.

• Remove old fixings and carefully disassemble the frame if necessary.

• Re‑glue or dowel joints, replace broken legs or stretchers with matching timber and tighten hardware.

• Sand, fill and refinish scratched timber; colour‑match stain or lacquer.

• If padded, re‑upholster the seat with new high‑density foam, wadding and fabric/vinyl, stapled to the underside.

• Re‑assemble, level feet, apply felt pads and perform a load test.

• Clear workspace, bag off‑cuts and provide a waste‑transfer note for disposed foam or fabric.

Time on Site

• 1 – 3 hours for most domestic stool repairs done on site.

• Extra time if: multiple stools, extensive refinishing between coats, or parts need machining off‑site.
  

Questions to Ask Your Trade

1. Which jointing method will you use (dowels, mortice‑and‑tenon, biscuits) and why?

2. Will stains and lacquers be colour‑matched to the rest of the set?

3. Do new foams and fabrics meet current fire‑retardancy standards (BS 5852)?

4. Is the quote fixed‑price or time‑and‑materials, and does it include VAT?

5. Can you supply sample swatches or photos of similar repairs?

6. How long should I wait before using the stool after glue or finish cures?
   

How to Avoid Surprises

• Clear a well‑lit workspace and plug socket for tools.

• Reserve parking close to the entrance; some adhesives and finishes must stay warm.

• Tell the trade about any pets or small children so safety barriers can be set up.

• Confirm whether they will remove packaging and waste, and keep the waste‑carrier licence number.

• If you live above ground floor, check building rules for lift bookings or carrying items on stairs.
