Scope of Works

• Inspect frame, webbing and springs for structural damage

• Remove damaged fabric and assess foam, fillings and zips

• Repair or replace seams, piping, stitching and internal supports

• Replace or top up foam and fillings and re-web or re-spring where needed

• Fit new fabric or patch panels, matching pattern and grain where possible

• Clean and treat surrounding upholstery for dust, stains or contamination using PPE

Small repairs such as a cushion cover or zip replacement usually take 1–2 hours; partial work on a chair or single cushion 2–6 hours; full sofa reupholstery often requires 1–3 days because of workshop work and drying times. Factors that extend time include complex frames, hard-to-match fabric, contaminants requiring treatment and limited access

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• Can you show before/after photos of similar sofa repairs and provide references

• Will the work be done on-site or taken to a workshop and what are the collection/delivery arrangements

• What exactly is included in the quote and what counts as an extra

• Can you match my fabric and foam density and can I see samples before work starts

• Do you carry public liability insurance and what guarantee do you offer on repairs

• How will you handle contaminants (mould, bedbugs, pet hair) and what PPE will you use

How to Avoid Surprises

• clear a 1–2 metre working area around the sofa and protect nearby flooring

• reserve nearby parking or confirm vehicle access for collection or delivery

• have fabric samples and a decision on colour/pattern and whether to replace foam

• check building or leaseholder rules for working hours, access and fire regulations

• secure pets and confirm disposal arrangements for old foam and fabric
