Scope of Works

• inspect seat frame, base board and cover to assess damage

• remove cover and fastenings (staples/tacks) to expose existing foam

• measure and template foam, recommend density and thickness for the chair type

• cut and shape new foam to profile, bond layers where required with adhesive

• refit foam, re‑stretch or replace cover and re‑staple or clamp to the frame

• test comfort and finish, clear work area and bag old foam for disposal

Time on Site

Most single chair foam replacements take 30 minutes–1.5 hours on site depending on cover removal and trimming; re‑upholstery or several chairs typically take 2–6 hours or more. Factors that extend time include damaged springs or frames, hard‑to‑remove staples, waiting for bespoke foam or fabric and restricted access such as narrow stairs

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• do you recommend foam replacement only or full re‑upholstery for this chair

• what density and thickness of foam do you propose and why

• will you reuse the existing cover or supply and fit new fabric and what are the costs

• how many chairs can you do in one visit and what is the lead time for special foam or fabric

• do you include removal and disposal of old foam and do you carry insurance for accidental damage

How to Avoid Surprises

• clear a workspace near the chair and remove loose cushions or ornaments

• tell the tradie if chairs are upstairs, on a balcony or in a flat with lift/stair restrictions

• arrange nearby parking or notify about permit/CPZ restrictions to avoid delays

• decide in advance whether you will supply replacement fabric and tell the tradie measurements or samples

• keep pets away from the work area; trader will use basic PPE but mention allergies or strong odours
