Scope of Works

• inspect and diagnose the recliner mechanism and mounting points

• remove cushions and underframe covers to access the mechanism

• lubricate pivot points, adjust linkages and tighten fasteners

• replace worn springs, cables, gears or swap in a new mechanism if required

• refit upholstery panels where removed and test operation under load

• handle spring‑loaded or sharp parts wearing gloves and eye protection

Most jobs take 1–3 hours on site; simple lubrication and adjustment 30–60 minutes, full mechanism replacement 1–3 hours. Factors that extend time include ordering parts, multiple seats needing repair, difficult access (narrow doors or stairs) and extensive upholstery removal

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• do you have the exact replacement mechanism for my sofa make/model or will you need to order one?

• can you provide a fixed price for parts plus fitting

• what warranty do you offer on parts and labour?

• will you remove and dispose of the old mechanism and is there an extra charge

• can you manage moving the sofa through tight doorways or up stairs and do you charge for that

• what PPE and cleanliness measures will you use in my home

How to Avoid Surprises

• clear a workspace and remove cushions before the visit

• take photos of the underside or note model details to share beforehand

• tell the tradie about stairs, narrow doors or parking constraints

• expect parts lead time — ask if they can bring common mechanisms on the van

• secure pets and ensure clear access and a nearby plug for additional light if needed
