Time on Site

Expect 1 – 3 hours for a man-and-van or grab load. Longer if:

  • Waste is spread out rather than piled.

  • Access is limited (basement, upper floors, no parking).

  • Heavy reinforced concrete needs mechanical breaking.

  • Waiting time for skip delivery/collection or road-closing permits.

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

  1. Do you hold an upper-tier Waste Carrier Licence and provide a waste-transfer note?

  2. Is the quoted price fully inclusive of landfill tax, recycling fees and VAT?

  3. How many crew members and what equipment will you bring for heavy rubble?

  4. Will I need a skip permit or parking suspension, and who arranges it?

  5. What percentage of my waste will be recycled versus landfilled?

  6. How do you charge for overweight loads or extra time on site?

  7. Can you provide references for similar builders-waste clearance jobs?

How to Avoid Surprises

  • Access: Reserve parking close to the waste pile; clear driveways or arrange kerb-side space.

  • Permits: Obtain any skip licence, parking bay suspension or scaffold/hoarding approvals in advance.

  • Load prep: Stack waste in one spot; bag loose debris to cut labour time.

  • Weight limits: Tell the tradie if you have concrete, tiles or soil – overweight loads can trigger surcharges.

  • Site rules: Check working-at-height or noise restrictions for early/late collections.

  • Payment: Agree whether disposal receipts are supplied and when balance is due.

Prices based on 2025 UK market data from Yell’s rubbish-removal cost guide and Checkatrade skip-hire analysis, with landfill tax current at £103.70 per tonne.
