• Survey property to identify volume and types of waste

• Load and remove general household rubbish, bulky items and garden waste

• Segregate recyclables where possible and transport to licensed facilities

• Dispose of accepted items at permitted waste transfer stations and provide waste transfer details on request

• Clear site of debris, sweep working areas and remove small loose waste like bags and packaging

• Do not remove hazardous materials (asbestos, clinical waste, contaminated soil) unless pre‑arranged with a specialist

• Operatives use basic PPE and follow contamination precautions for soiled items

Most single‑room or small garden clearances take 1–3 hours; whole‑property clearances may take 1–2 days. Access (stairs, narrow lanes), volume of bulky items, need for specialist hazardous disposal and delays getting permits or parking can extend time on site

Questions to Ask Your Tradie

• Are you a registered/licensed waste carrier and can you provide a waste transfer note

• Exactly what will you remove and what do you not take (asbestos, batteries, fridges, clinical waste)

• Is the price fixed for the job or charged per hour plus disposal fees

• Where will the waste be taken and can you show receipts for disposal on completion

• Do you include stair carry and do you charge extra for heavy or awkward items

• Can you provide proof of public liability insurance and references for similar jobs

How to Avoid Surprises

• make a list or photos of bulky items and hazardous items before quoting

• ensure clear access and a parking space near the property or arrange permits in advance

• remove or secure fragile items and pets before the crew arrives

• set aside items you want to keep and clearly label them to avoid accidental removal

• flag access issues (narrow doors, flights of stairs, lift restrictions) when booking

• ask for confirmation of disposal method and a waste transfer note to confirm legal disposal
