Scope of Works

• Survey & classify metal items (ferrous, non‑ferrous, WEEE) and confirm they’re safe to move.

• Disconnect, drain or isolate appliances (e.g. washers, radiators) where needed.

• Load scrap into van or cage truck; separate batteries, cables and mixed‑materials for compliant recycling.

• Provide waste‑transfer note and record of scrap weight/value.

• Transport to licensed yard, weigh in and recycle; issue certificate on request.

• Tidy collection area, sweeping up loose fasteners or swarf.

Time on Site

15 – 60 minutes for a single‑van domestic pickup.Longer if:

• Items need draining, unbolting or partial dismantling.

• Access is via upper floors or narrow alleys.

• Van must queue at weighbridge before issuing paperwork.
  

Questions to Ask Your Trade

1. Are you a Licensed Upper‑Tier Waste Carrier and can I see the registration number?

2. Will you pay, charge or collect free—and how is that decided (weight, item type)?

3. Do you issue a waste‑transfer note or digital collection receipt?

4. What volume/weight is included before extra fees apply?

5. How do you handle non‑metal parts (plastic casings, insulation) and who pays disposal?

6. Can you confirm your public‑liability insurance covers loading accidents?

7. What vehicle size will arrive and does it fit my driveway or permit zone?
   

How to Avoid Surprises

• List items & photos so the collector can judge weight and access.

• Reserve parking or driveway space the length of a Transit‑size van.

• Separate hazardous parts (fridge compressors, batteries) in advance.

• Confirm stair or loft access if items aren’t at ground level.

• Ask about same‑day weigh‑ticket if you expect payment for higher‑value metals.
